An interview for magazine “Usuri” with Vlado from EcoVege. We thank to the magazine and to Krasi Prodanov for the opportunity to share the information also with the readers of EcoVege, as well as for the support for the green and sustainable living way of life.

• Name: Vladimir Nguyễn
• Since when are you a vegan: Since about two years, before that I was a vegetarian for about six years.
• Can you share with us in one sentence why... Each living creature wants to live in happiness, not in pain and suffering.

His pursuits are entirely practical and that is probably why the things that come from his hands can feed the body as well as the soul... For the first thing he is taking care when he is in shift in his favorite healthy restaurant “Kring”, where he works. His pursuits when he leaves the chopping-board and the knives aren’t less important - then in his agenda comes the work on one really important place in internet - the webpage EcoVege.Org. Important for everyone who sees the spirituality of our time in the opportunity to live in a nature friendly way. Vlado explains what does this mean: “Our way of nutrition and the use of Earth’s resources change the environment, which we live in. That is why we have to be economical in spending energy, to use environment friendlier electric appliances, detergents and other, to plant trees and to be vegetarians or vegans...”   
When we don’t understand something it is good to talk, thinks Vlado and that is why he takes actively part in another unique form of this not so popular for our time philosophy. He is in the basis of several organized seminars “Be vegan...”, aiming to show by means of science proof that the time for changing the way of thinking has really come.

“According to the scientist of NASA Jay Zwally for example - Vladi puts again the force of facts into use, - almost all of the ice in the Arctic ocean could melt until the summer of 2012.”     
Not fear as it often happens with the green initiatives, which we have also witnessed, but love gives the philosophy of Vlado, called by his friends Vladokan. The East has influenced him when he realized for the first time that our place is among animals and trees - again the East has given him also the passion for martial arts. And when he unites these things, the ecoveg has been born, one real person of new time.

The inner confidence

“I love all creatures. We have to be vegans or vegetarians, because this is the best for the health of people and the planet, on which we live. The vegan nutrition frees resources, with which milliards of starving in the world can be fed. Now these resources are being used for providing food to animals. 
If I wasn’t a vegan, for sure I wouldn’t have tried the taste of avocado, germs, tofu, tempeh, seitan, curry, humus... God, the nature has given us so much!

To be vegan is hard sometimes because of the people around you who are not vegetarians or vegans and do not show understanding. This happens also with me from times to times but I don’t pay attention and people know that I have “a strong lobby” in my inner confidence. Veganism is also a noble way of life - the real way in life is also noble, not hard or easy :).”

Be vegan, live green...

“The seminars, in which organizing I take part, inform people about the recent condition of the planet and what can each of us do to change this. The idea came from the members of the International association of the Supreme Master Ching Hai, which conducts such seminars in the world. On the event itself interviews with leading climate scientists and their advices are being shown. The reasons for global warming from scientific, moral and spiritual point of view are being searched for. It will be great, if this year we conduct more seminars - there have already been such in Sofia and Plovdiv...”

The long shadow of stock-farming

“According to a report of the UN from 2006 the meat-producing industry is responsible for more hothouse emissions than all means of transport in the world took together. Stock-farming uses also 30% of the surface of entire planet for constant pasture, but also 33% from the cropland are used for producing food for animals. The Amazon forests are the lungs of Earth, but over 80% are cut again because of stock-breeding. For a kilogram of beef-cattle is used water equal to the water for 180 showers. These are only part of the damages caused by meat-consumption and the connected with it production. A report of the American Worldwatch Institute, which appeared in the end of last year, shows that all hothouse emissions in the world can be decreased with over 50% if we pass on vegan nutrition. All facts show clearly that meat nutrition is not a sustainable living way of life and to be vegan is the best thing that someone can do for people, for the planet and for animals.”

Milk products

“Still before I became vegan, I was avoiding eating cheese, because the renet, from which it is made, often comes from the stomach of animals and this is even non vegetarian. The labels are undetailed to the maximum... You can learn nothing from them! Recently I came across a description of the usual production of industrial cheese and there was everything in it, except for milk. Before I was suffering from some very unpleasant skin problems. I have learnt from my organism that there is no such harmful combination as mixing bread with milk. Since I do not eat animal products these problems have decreased a lot and I think that the reason for this is namely the absence of milk products. A glimmer for this I had from Mer, the creator of the website Earth on loan, who has had similar problems.”

The overconsumption of proteins in the nutrition nowadays

“In the vegetarian guidebook of Doctors for responsible medicine, published by EcoVege.Org, has one whole detailed section devoted to proteins. There are proteins in the cereals, nuts... and a lot of other vegetable food. The humane organism even this of the most charged sportsmen does not demand huge reception of proteins. Take for example a baby - until its first year it gets 10% of proteins only from mother’s milk and grows for the same period of time on weight and height with about two times. The proteins in meat are about 30% and in different vegetables on the average of about 10%. It’s not by chance that so many young people today suffer from overweight, encouraged to get huge quantity of proteins. The overconsumption of proteins can lead to a number of diseases. Vegetable food is more than enough for getting the needed proteins.”

“To this absurd question I really don’t know how to answer :) Now they are trying to put into the market and the agriculture for example tomato with fish genes. I hope that they want succeed, everything depends on us... Otherwise I don’t know if I will eat some gene modified plant or it will eat me :).”

Acknowledgement “in green”

Everything ecological has to grow not only in spring according to Vladi and EcoVege.Org. That is why the website for ecology and vegetarianism has begun to distinguish the bearer of eco consciousness in Bulgaria. In the debut of the initiative acknowledgement has gained Lucy Setian - part of the reasons were in one other acknowledgement, her announcement for most influential eco blogger in a competition of the European centre for journalism.

You shouldn’t write on the topic ecology forgetting the sense of humor and putting on the mask of seriousness - this prove the posts of Lucy, who knits from her green fibers one changed real world, in which climate and people are natural. Convince by yourselves on: http://lucysetian.eu.
